A Connecticut based 501c3 that works endlessly to save dogs from situations in which dogs are picked up as strays, abandoned, or set for euthanasia. A rescue who's commitment continues and will never change.
Ruff Start Happy Tails believes that animals deserve our love, compassion, and respect. Our purpose is to rescue dogs and to provide care for orphaned, stray, and abused dogs. Through rehabilitation, socialization and adoption, we strive to provide a humane service to all dogs that come into our rescue. Additionally we provide awareness about the prevention of animal abuse and neglect as well as spay/neuter programs and their important effect on the dog overpopulation crisis.
Ruff Start Happy Tails is dedicated to the rescue and placement of homeless animals, many of whom are rescued at the very last moment from euthanasia at shelters. We provide a safe haven to all those who find their way to us through a variety of circumstances.
Ruff Start Happy Tails does not have a shelter and relies solely on a network of foster homes and volunteers. We receive no public funding and count on the generosity of others to help defray our costs, which include vet bills and other medical expenses.
" One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, ‘What are you doing?’ The youth replied, ‘Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.’ ‘ Son,’ the man said, ‘don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!’ After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said...... ‘I made a difference for that one.’"
